KWM is a firm that’s firmly focussed on the future, but we never forget our past.

Mallesons Stephen Jaques originated in 1832 in Western Australia. In 1987 we established the first truly national, integrated law firm in Australia when Stephen Jaques Stone James merged with Mallesons. We were then one of the first Australian firms to internationalise with the establishment of our first London office and the first Australian firms to enter the China market.

We have always been at the forefront of the biggest developments shaping our economy and society – and we've never lost our pioneering spirit. We've played a key role in developing new market infrastructure, policies and products and we've helped our clients to transform industries.

Established in 1993, King & Wood was one of China’s first private partnership law firms and one of the first Chinese firms to open offices overseas. Since then, the firm has played a leading role in the development of China’s legal market, contributing to the progress of the rule of law in China and providing professional legal services for multinational companies to invest in China, as well as development and "going global" opportunities for Chinese companies.

The combination of Australia’s oldest and most respected firm with China’s best top tier firm was a game changer for the international legal market back in 2012. Together, we created a new breed of global law firm - a regional Asian powerhouse, with a unique international platform and fusion of perspectives.

From our deep Chinese roots and our Australian origins, we’re now a leading international law firm with 26 offices across China, Hong Kong SAR China, Japan, Singapore, Australia and the United States.
